Shrimp is commonly known as “White Gold” in Bangladesh. The shrimp sector of Bangladesh is unique mostly cultured extensively that were formerly used as rice ponds and are locally referred to as “Ghers“.
About 8 lakh farmers have been cultivating Black Tiger and Freshwater scampi in a completely natural way.
Due to the availability of brackish water, about 3 Lakh hectare of land mostly cultured extensively which is environment friendly & socially acceptable.
Due to low-density culture, it does not require any antibiotics, growth hormones or any other chemicals . Farmers collect shrimps from farms in a completely natural way.
The role of shrimps in our socio-economic development is immense.Almost all the shrimps are produced in extensive types of farming without using any drugs and chemicals, even any commercial feeds.
